About STMA Schools
We are a district that serves over 6,700 students and employs 750+ employees in a northwestern suburb of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Our district is comprised of one primary school for kindergarten students, three elementary schools for grades 1-4, two middle schools for grades 5-8, and one high school for grades 9-12.
Position Overview & Responsibilities
The English Learner (EL) teacher’s primary responsibility is preparing materials and designing lessons in the areas of speaking, listening, reading, and writing that are focused on improving the English language acquisition abilities of students whose home primary language is not English.
Additional responsibilities of the EL instructor include:
- Providing daily lesson plans and supervision of English Learner (EL) paraprofessional(s) who assist with the delivery of EL services.
- Instructing and supervising EL students with a wide range of abilities.
- Assessing student progress and developing individualized learning plans for students requiring specific language acquisition interventions.
- Creating an engaging and respectful classroom environment which encourages students to reach their language acquisition goals.
- Communicate student English language acquisition progress with mainstream teachers and with family members using first language resources when needed.
- Participate in on-going school improvement professional development.

FTE: 1.0
Contract: 186 days
Location: District-Wide (multiple building, Big Woods Elementary & St. Michael Elementary)
Requirements & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in education and required teaching certificate in related area(s) of instruction as required by the State of Minnesota, specific content knowledge, training or job experience required before appointment, and successful student teaching.
